What is a Registered Investment Advisor?

Definition: A Registered Investment Advisor (“RIA”) is an entity which enables the Investment Advisor Representatives (“IAR”) registered with it to provide investment advice to their clients for a fee.

When used in an RIA context: “The client decided to work with a Registered Investment Advisor to help them manage their retirement portfolio.”
